There no telling how backward or advanced relative to our society they will be. My question, is how do they look or how did they evolve differently from us?

Unlikely.

We have to consider not just the vast distances involved, and the fact that all of our known communications technologies are limited by the relatively slow speed of light, but also the dimension of time. If we take 10 advanced civilizations and allow each 100,000 years of life in a Universe with an age of 13,000,000,000 years we end up with each civilization lasting for 1/130,000 of the span.

Them's pretty low odds.
