Everyone has heard of these places where overwhelmed and ignorantly uneducated (sorry, but it's true), parents send their teens to make them "un-gay", but do they actually exist anymore? If so, where would someone find such a place? I mean, I wouldn't think any search engine would support such a thing...

Just so that there is no misunderstanding (most people on Yahoo Answers don't bother to do much more than skim the question and then leave rude remarks), I am a lesbian, I was just wondering...

Okay, I think people are getting the wrong idea here...I don't want to change, I love who I am...I was just curious if they actually existed after watching "But I'm a Cheerleader", lol

Whilst my roommate and I were searching for the answer to question we stumbled upon this http://www.totallytom.com/thecureforgayness.html
It just cured my gay roommate!....HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAAAA!

I kept looking today and on a more serious note here's a link that's the perfect answer (it's two pages otherwise I'd copy and paste) :http://gaylife.about.com/od/religion/i/ex_gay.htm

I love But I'm a Cheerleader!!!!!!!

It's hard to find a link to residential camps nowadays. I believe a lot of them were shut down due to having incorrect staffing, such as when Love in Action's camp was shut down because unlicensed people were handing out prescription meds to the kids. The people who created that camp now have an "outpatient" program for teens where they stay in a nearby hotel with a family member. All the info I could find about specific programs was about things like youth group curricula, classroom curricula, national conferences, support groups, and things like that. All for the purpose of "helping" people become ex-gays.

I'm willing to bet the camps still exist. They're probably just more small-scale now. Like maybe a few churches get together and sponsor a camp for a few weeks in a local parks/recreation center. But for the most part it seems like they've moved onto the youth group/classroom/public speaking thing.

Sorry, couldn't stand searching any further. I feel dirty now just for having read that bull-caca with my own eyes.

try googling reprogramming gay teens or something.
I almost made a smart remark to your question. lol
Your lead in was a lot like Lulu or some of the other bashers. lol
The search engines might have to exhibit the info initially due to freedom of speech.
The search engines have things called spiders (computer programs that analyze websites for the so-called validity of their content) but they do not actually censor the content unless it is overly sexual or explicit by nature. Real people only look at the data after the fact. And as I say they are not allowed to police content in that way.

Despite what any logical, sane person would think, those places do indeed exist. They do a lot more damage than good too. I once heard someone say on this section that people who work at these places pour buckets of water over them while chanting the Lord's name in hysterics. NOT a fun place to be for sure.

As far as camps and stuff like that, if they exist, they're very little and DON'T work.

Also, there used to be e technique (I think it still may be common) where every time a gay person has attractive thoughts of the same sex, they get shocked (it's like being shocked-teated into straightness). But that also does NOT work. There is no current way to change your sexuality, just flow with it...

... well, there is one way. If you're a lesbian, pay Oprah to start flirting with you. That'll work better than shock-treatment.

I'm sure there are those kinds of places. I know they areimmoral, but it probably goes along the lines of the teens being minors and not being able to defend themselves.

Those places probably disguise themselves as teaching kids about mainstream America.

And even then ...I wonder if there are places that will make you gayer... or at least learn about the gay culture. That would probably help troubled teens concerned about their sexuality.

Here's one: http://www.loveinaction.org/default.aspx?pid=92

I found out about it because a gay teenager came out to his fundamentalist parents, and they made him attend the brainwashing camp, against his will. He had a myspace account, and he blogged in it about what happened to him and attracted a huge amount of attention (which was actually unwelcome for him).

There was this group that formed, "Free Zach" and people were picketing.

I watched a segment on TV about how some mormon families sent thier children to ELECTRO SHOCK therapy! it was so crazy....they hooked these shockers to this boy and when he was aroused by gay porn they would shock him!!!

This obviously means these places do exist....and probably always will because so many ppl have twigs up their bums!!!

NO OFFENSE TO THE MORMON RELIGION.....my best friend is mormon...and i am a lesbian

I watched a movie about parents sending their kids to a place like that, they only ended up finding soul mates of the same sex. If you know the name of the movie I would like to know, wouldn't mind seeing it again.
