If you are asking if there are internet scams in regarding renting apts, etc then the answer is yes.

As a property manager I get e-mail from Nigerians who want me to wire money to them, Drs from the UK who want me to wire funds to their furniture company in Europe, single "open minded" women wanting to relocate back to the US (also requesting a wire transfer), etc.

Now as a person wanting to rent, the common scam is for someone to charge you an application fee for a place they claim to own. Now they have your $20-$50 and enough information to steal your idenity.

Always use an agent when renting outof state or area.

Hope that answers your questions.

Regards

If you can ask that question then the answer is yes!!!!

Find a reputable, brick and mortar real estate firm that has been in the area for more than a week and that should help some.

Best of luck.

One way to avoid scams is to go through a reputable real estate agent. Another way is to check the tax records to make sure they match who you are writing rent/deposit checks to.
