That is somewhat true.. But thats only because the European nations did not take over those Asian contries and get them against eachother and take all the resources for make a decent living standard. Africans are the ones who came up with 90% of Scitific information, Algebra and arabic numerals. They mine Gold and Diamonds which Eruopeans nations are making money from. Its pretty sad, African students dont even need Calcualaters to do math equations like those around the world. They are among the intelligent. But have a disgustingly poor govermnets that put all the income of the country in their bank accounts. And when saying "Africa" Undertsand that AFRICA is the only content that carries the genes of all races and languages. So the people are different and traditions are no where close to being the same.

In terms of civilisation, I should say that the countries in both the continents are almost at par. They are tradition bound. But, the Asian countries have shown progress and modern ideas, while the African countries have been languishing in medievalism. Both the continents have suffered the scourge of colonialism and are now freed from their colonial masters. In African countries, the colonial masters took more time to leave, the Asian countries succeeded in liberating themselves rather early. The latter put up some creditable resistance to the continued dominance of the European forces. In fact, the liberation of Asia, paved the way for the intensified struggle for freedom and against racialism in Africa. In the Namibia's Independence and the struggle against apartheid in South Africa, the contribution of the Asian countries like India, cannot be understated. The over exploitation of Africa by European is evident in the economic backwardness, which they find it difficult to shake off. Africa has to go a long way before it comes out of the steep degradation of its economy.

While both Asia and Africa have forms of civilization that existed when Europe was a continent of serfs and royal lords and the essense of civilization was denied to the people, neither Africa nor Asia have advanced their civilizations as democracies in the same range as Europe and the European offshoots in North and South America has.

The standard of living for the most people has always been higher in democracies than in people ruled by dictators or one party governments. The higher the standard of living is, the more particular as to what type of labor the workers in demrocracies will accept.

By selling the labor of their poor to perform the least acceptable types of labor to the leading counties..and the United States is one of that group..at barely subsistance levels, the so called third world contries are moving their economies higher and higher while the democracies are buying short life span products and services that should be kept or provided in this country.

There fore..as in the Roman Empire...the capacity to produce luxury items and necessities in the so called leading economies is being under achieved and the movement of dollars and pounds and francs is being excellerated at an unhealthy rate to the Third World countries because the leading democracies are becoming dependent on those countries to the determent of the democracic countries The fall of the Roman Empire was the result we can expect in the democracies if we do not change 180 degrees in our present policies.

To return to your question, the capacity to take advantage of the earning of democracies money for cheaper goods and services is greater in Asia than in the countries of Africa which is more tribe like than the more urban Asia countries. Therefore, Asia is gaining on the leading demcracies while Africa as a whole is not moving very fast to that goal.

While there is a lot of recent development in Africa there are many more countries in Asia that have thriving economies and a much higher standard of living. Even the underdeveloped countries of Asia have a higher standard of living and higher per capata income then the underdeveloped countries of Africa.

In terms of economics? We do better as we have ASEAN that discusses about detailed economics issues of our countries, and even have mini-olympics to call our own.

We even beat EU into it, making ASEAN an original first entity that deals on solving issues. We just don't have the single monetary system as it is the scale of our standing as a Nation.
