The thing about our planet is that although scientist say something is going to happen in x amount of time it doesn't mean it will happen exactly on schedule. When scientist say such statistics they are only taking the average of what occurred in the past. Geologist can find out how big an earthquake was at a certain time by looking at the rock record for that area by taking samples from holes dug, mountains, etc. The problem with this is that the farther back in time we go with the rock record the more sketchy it looks from the weathering of the rocks. Could this earthquake happen this year? possibly? today? maybe? Five or ten, maybe 20 years from now? No one knows. Earthquakes are very difficult to predict. Seismologist can only give the alert when the earthquake is actually happening. I hope this helps in some way!

When? Don't know for sure. But the better question is this: Is Pinky prepared for it whenever it does happen? Got some food and water stored away in the apt. to last maybe a week? First aid gear? Rescue gear (really, people will be trapped. Maybe you. Can you force your way out if you have to? Be of some help to others?) Enough supplies to help some friends who are not as amazingly smart as you? Always have a half tank of gas or more? Be prepared to live from your car -- you may be at work or on the road. Some survival food and stuff in the trunk helps. Got some cash? Don't plan on ATMs working. Running a typical week through your mind, do you know what you would do if it happened at some arbitrary time in that week? When you are at the market? Know where you would go if you couldn't stay home? Have some maps and figured a way to get around if the freeways are damaged or just clotted? Can't know when, but you can be prepared and thus sleep better. If you don't know when, amazingly smart will do instead.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

I live in Downey and I felt it! I was lying in bed but not asleep, and suddenly my bed jumped up hard, then it shook side-to-side for 20 seconds! It was a 4.4 magnitude. The epicenter is at Whittier Blvd and the 605 freeway in Pico Rivera and it is 5 miles deep into the ground. The news mistakingly says it is in Montebello, but it is not. I looked at Google earthquakes and it shows it as Pico Rivera on the map. This earthquake happened on the Whittier fault line! You have to remember that 1987 was the last time that fault line shook, and let me tell you, that earthquake damaged a lot of buildings.

honestly there's no surefire way to predict when, where, and to what effect an earthquake (or any other natural disaster) will strike. i'm pretty sure that somewhere in LA there is a resource office for civilian earthquake preparedness. i'd recommend talking to them and using their guidelines to prepare your home in the event that an earthquake strikes. that way you'll have an evacuation plan.

earthquake prediction is very hard to do. usually it is only 30% chance and it is 10% accurate
