when you plug it in to the computer, you have to "saflely remove it" by using Itunes. There should be an eject logo to click on. If you just want to charge it, you should buy a charging adapter that you can plug into a wall outlet. Its 30 or 40 bucks but it's a lot more convenient. It will charge if it's plugged in to the computer, but it's kind of a pain, unless you're putting in songs.

Allow a reasonable amount of time for it to update. You'll know its done when the it no longer says DO NOT DISCONNECT. Once thats done, you should be able to add music through itunes. Using that, it's just drag and drop. Just dont drag and drop your entire 25,000 song collection in one move. It'll lock up. do it in segments.

It will ALWAYS say that. All you have to do is download and load itunes. Then from there, you can drag songs from your folder to your Ipod. [it should show up in the devices list. ]
