In recorded music, the terms A-side and B-side refer to the two sides of 7 inch vinyl records on which singles were released beginning in the 1950s. The terms have come to refer to the types of song conventionally placed on each side of the record, with the A-side being the featured song (the one that the record producer hopes will receive radio airplay and become a "hit"), while the B-side, or "flipside," is secondary (often a song that does not appear on a band's LP.).

When the primary format of music was vinyl, it was the opposite side of the record. The A-side would have the single on it, but the B-side would have another song.

when there were vinyl singles the "A" side was the single released. The "B" side was another song by the same artist, usually off the same album, or a to be released album

Musicians usually released a single song, and the B side was the song on the other side of the record. (yes, vinyl record...a 45 rpm with ONE song on each side.)

A b-side another song released on a single cd(originally the song on the other side of a record that was not meant to be the hit single). The band skid row also used it as a play on words on the name of one of their albums that was all cover songs entitled "b-sides ourselves"

The b-side in music refers to songs that aren't played as much or are not that popular.
