What has to be done for anti-Americanism to come to an end?

This country should not have this kind of image. The international perspective of the U.S. needs to be fixed.

It would be nice to visit another country without THIS happening...

I don't know what it's going to take. Within my lifetime I would like to see some changes. I already know what I'm in for with this question so if you try to offend me, I'm prepared.

I think most of the "anti-Americanism" you speak of comes from either Muslim-dominated Middle Eastern countries or liberal left-wing loonies. People aren't as down with America as the liberal media wants to lead you to believe.

However, I do believe America should stay out of other country's affairs and focus on reuniting our country that is very divided. We should redirect our military away from Iraq and redeploy them to Afghanistan/Pakistan and capture Osama bin Laden and his cronies. Afterwards, let's bring our soldiers home for a very long time.

The impression I get is that America (as a whole) is of the opinion that it can manage by itself and doesn't need to co-operate with other countries. The Kyoto Accord is one such example - pretty much the whole world signed up to it even though it would mean hardships but the attitude from America seemed to be 'stuff you we're only concerned about ourselves and we’re not willing to co-operate'.

As the world's only super-power it's a difficult position to be in and in many ways is similar to Britain 100 years ago.

There's also the issue of superiority. America often leads the way in things but the rest of the world doesn't need constantly reminding of this. You don't hear the same rhetoric coming from the European Union which as a whole often out performs America - richer, bigger economy, more military power, greater productivity etc.

The US has a vitally important role to play in world affairs but to date it's role has been one of authoritarianism and dominance rather than co-operation and constructiveness. If America can accept that all other countries on earth don't have to follow the American Way then it will do a lot better.

This is of course a generalisation and much of the image of any country is down to the administration that's in power and not the citizens. I'm not saying that this is what individual Americans are like, in fact, of the many I've met this is quite often the contrary.

Who gives a flying fart about what our image is. The United States is the best place to live in the world. No matter how bad you think things are in the USA, EVERYWHERE ELSE IS WORSE. More taxes, more wasteful government, less opportunity and less freedom. God bless Bush for trying to give the citizens of Iraq a chance at freedom.

Nobody ever likes the HNIC. But we could start improving our image by completely disengaging from the entire world altogether...No more money, no more help, no more soldiers..it won't take long before we are mr. nice guy again...and the hands of want start knocking on our door again..

People around the world have to start accepting responsibility for their own actions. It isn't America's fault that Africa is a poor man's continent. It isn't America's fault that the Kurds were pushed nearly to complete genocide by Saddam Hussein. It wasn't America's fault that the Chernobyl accident occurred. It isn't America's fault that South Korea decided to follow our ways and North Korea didn't like it.
