They will first try to enforce the order by garnishing wages. They have to find out where he works so if you know that information tell them. They may also try to get back support when he files his taxes. If he does not work, gets paid under the table, or for some other reason they can't get the money they will suspend his driver's license. The next step is jail. Jail is usually a last resort and when they owe thousands and thousands of dollars. All of this can take a couple of years if you go through the state attorney's office. You would have faster results if you go through a private atty. but of course that costs money. There are also agencies that will get faster results than the state but they also take a cut of your child support.

Those are not what a sheriff would serve. Service papers are just that, papers served on someone, summonses, requiring someone to attend a hearing. The letter you refer to sounds like a letter from a child support agency.
As to wage garnishments, states are allowed to use them period, not just when an absentee parent fails to pay.
As to sending him to jail, there has to be a warrant issued before that occurs. So if he was indeed served and failed to attend a hearing, it is likely that a judge would issue a warrant for his arrest. He could also be incarcerated for contempt of court for his failure to pay if he was served and failed to attend.

you had to file a claim to have the papers sreved on him by the court .. if he does not pay or request a hearing,,, then the court who served the papers on him will start procedure to get him... if he has a job, then they can garnshee him.. and to go to jail will require other hearings,,,,
if you have a court order for him to pay child support and he does not ,, and this is posted on the federal and state tax people,,, and he files taxes. then his refund will be held and sent to you through the courts...
do not back off of this there are ways to make his life miserable if you choose to...
let me say this any man or woman who will not support their own child due to their own chooseing... should not be allowed to walk free...... i do a business part time of where i find dead beat parents and we get them to pay up... most people will charge a very high fee for this service.... i do not charge one dime,, for this service ,, i am not looking for more business,,, what i do is this i get the top 50 dead beats in my state , and i start from there ... most of the cases i work with the parent will owe $20,000.00 plus,, all of these people are ones that the police say they cannot find,,, well if i can ,, why cant they do it... the fact is the police do not put much effort into this ,,, it is getting better,, thanks to a lot of people pushing this. find ionfo on some one is not that hard to do....
i hope you get this guy,, and make him pay,,,,
take care of your children may god bless you

Alot depends on what state you are in...It has been my experience unfortunatelly that nothing involving "the process" happens immediately sometimes thats a good thing and sometimes more than not it's a bad thing. I would suggest getting a lawyer in your state alot of whom you can have a phone consultation for free, worth a shot. There should be in the phone listings a number for Child Support Enforcement and they should be able to better answer your question.
Hope this was atleast a little help to you,
Good luck to you and the child!!!

Wage garnishment is the 1st thing that will happen, but in Cali they will also not allow renewal of driver's license or car registration if the person is in serious arrears.
It really does matter where you reside.
Good Luck.

It depends on the laws of your state. You seriously need to ask a lawyer about this one.
Whatever is decided, he will eventually be forced to pay, and back pay from the time your paperwork was filed.
