I want to use scientific-atlanta webstar 2000 series cable modem to connect to my high speed instead of nvidia nforce mcp networking controller but I am not sure how to do this

You might not be able to just swap them out, your ISP might have your MAC address registered from your existing cable modem, which is the nvidia card itself basically. You'll probably have to call your ISP and let them know you're doing this so they can configure your registration with the cable modem MAC of the Webstar cable modem, then they'll have you power cycle it and see if they can ping it, once you get past that point it should be good to go.

There is a good chance that you will be ok. But, you never know. Try it. Vista is more forgiving than XP was when it comes to drivers. There is also a good chance that you Webstar is nothing more than a clone of someone else's modem and has the same chipset. In that case, Vista is likely to detect that modem as a different one. Why would you care as long as it works, right?
