Just be sure you have plenty of roots. Dig a hole and plant it to the same level it was growing. Keep it well watered. Usually the problem with bamboo can be running roots. Find out if you have a running or a clumping variety. I was told last year that it does not like to grow downhill, so planting it on a raised bed helps it not to travel. One of my first jobs here was removing bamboo that had grown all over the place. Some people plant the bamboo with a piece of thick plastic called bamboo barrier all around the plant. It is nice in big whiskey barrels.

I have two different species of bamboo, both are clumpers, and both are reasonably well behaved. The oldest have been where it is for 20years, the newest maybe five years,

The roots are tough and cutting them back is a bit of work, when needed, but anything cut out will grow, I have knocked the oldest clump (30' fishing pole size) back five years ago perhaps a foot and it needs doing another foot or so again.

I have a much larger variety that has been in the ground for five years and is only now beginning to even reach its full height, and has not spread.

A friend had a running type that would run two to four feet a year, and she is having a lot of trouble getting rid of it. so all bamboo is not the same.

Anywhere but outdoors!

Bamboo is the most resilent weed on Earth. Just put it in a pot of dirt. It's almost impossible to kill it.
