IEEE 1394 is Firewire ... you'll probably find it's 1394b .. it was the first of the highspeed transfer protocols developed by Apple and incorporated in the early Sony Handicams and video cameras ... it has a transfer rate of 400Mbps where USB 1 only had a transfer rate of 11Mbps
USB 2 has a transfer rate of 480Mbps so most newish video cams use USB 2
The new Generation of Firewire has a tranfer rate of 800Mbps
