I've talked to plenty god believers about the existence of god.

1. They tend to scratch the surface on each subject. They avoid getting into detail. They'll try to change the subject to prevent it.

2. They can't understand how Atheists can be happy without believing in God. God is like a drug to them. They need a fix

3. They think God is in control no matter how bad things are. They could be getting brutally murdered and still think it's God's will

4. God is their imaginary friend. They think they can't live without him. That's why they assume that Atheists are miserable

5. They can't even stand to hear someone say God is fake. I had people walk away feeling angry just because I said God is fake

6. Debating about the existence of God is entertaining for Atheist but painful for most God believers.

Please see my answers below my naive atheist friend.....

1. They tend to scratch the surface on each subject. They avoid getting into detail. They'll try to change the subject to prevent it.

------ You want detail? First of all, there is overwhelming evidence all around that God exists. For example, have you ever seen an autopsy? It was difficult for me not to believe after I saw the actual organs inside the body and fascinating how these could function together with completely separate functions. How could this have evolved entirely from plankton? How could this human machine of organs be possible without a design or creator?

Secondly, Blaise Pascal was a great mathematician. He waged others that there was a God and that if you believed, you would have the probability of an eternity of happiness. If you waged against God, then there was a probability that you would have an unpleasant afterlife. So given the two options, the Wager for God is a better decision because it is the more logical choice. There is no proof about the Bible, but if you choose for God, then one would believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God. Also, I think a lot of people are in denial. All you have to do is REALLY look around at the complexity and design of life and how can a person not believe in a creator? Can you prove God does Not exist? I certainly cannot. I choose God......

2. They can't understand how Atheists can be happy without believing in God. God is like a drug to them. They need a fix
--- Not me. As far as I'm concerned, you have already made your choice against god. Everyone makes a choice for or against in their lives. Also, God is not like a drug to me. I treat God as a mentor to help me improve my life in different ways.

3. They think God is in control no matter how bad things are. They could be getting brutally murdered and still think it's God's will
--- We have free will and are subject to the physical world including bad people out to destroy us. God can intervene generally in peoples lives and I believe he has been involved in my life.

4. God is their imaginary friend. They think they can't live without him. That's why they assume that Atheists are miserable
-- Haven't really thought about this. In fact, I don;t know what life would be like without God. It would be empty to me. Like missing a mom or dad, brothers, sisters or friends.

5. They can't even stand to hear someone say God is fake. I had people walk away feeling angry just because I said God is fake
-- As far as I'm concerned, you can say what you want. you made your choice against God and nobody can change that.

6. Debating about the existence of God is entertaining for Atheist but painful for most God believers.
-- You'll be entertained in THIS life only ;-)

Good luck and God Bless my atheist buddy. You'll need it!

Answerer #a million -- no longer too long, yet no longer important adequate to truly debate. I even have had a large number of solid debates with Christians of all denominations who did NONE of those issues, and the place do you get your counsel, in any case? Who hears voices? Who calls human beings devils, and starts wars? What concept Hating? I additionally do no longer comprehend what you're talking approximately in a million. -- scratching the outdoors and changing the concern. Or 2. God is type of a drug? maybe God is purely one thing that they base their existence on so as that they don't desire a "fix" -- they only lead a non secular existence? you have geared up a superficial and circumstantial case for a ridiculous accusation. the thought in God is not greater a psychological ailment than sitting down and typing on Yahoo solutions at night once you need to be analyzing a e book. you haven't any longer have been given any data that are supported by ability of evidence, you have some imprecise notions which you twisted around to in wonderful condition your sick-appropriate hypothesis of psychological ailment. i'm happy which you have been amused and entertained whilst mocking and ridiculing committed believers of any faith, yet whilst it is relaxing for you, it became needless to say relaxing which you had at somebody else's cost. whilst i'm no longer a Christian, I actual could debate this subject matter with you at any time, and could actual no longer be in soreness if those are all the data it is recommended to help your argument.

Well, Richard Dawkins correctly (I believe) calls it a "delusion." And delusional thinking is usually a sign of mental illness. Not to say that all people who believe in god are truly insane. Mostly, they just "believe" out of habit and for the "warm and fuzzy" feelings they get from any positive experiences they may have had related to their upbringing with it and/or out of misplaced fear that not believing means something bad will happen to them.

But most people who believe actually never even thought about it very much (as you mention). They just "kinda believe" because they've heard it so many times for so long that they just "assume it must be true" but with no real thought or reason. Mostly, people who believe enjoy the familiarity and consistency of having the same kind of thoughts over and over again. They prefer it to dealing head-on with reality.

No, people need something to believe in, they need it to be able to live, they feel comfortable thinking and believing that someone is always watching what they do and caring for them, it feels the coid inside them, God is real but he wants you to live your life as good as you can.

Not a mental illness, but some people do seem to get pretty obsessive.
