are you sure it is 4x^9 and not 4x^4

factor out 4x
4x(x^8+x^2-9x-9) this is as far as you can go

now 4x^4 + 4x^3 - 36x^2 -36x is factorable
4x(x^3+x^2-9x-9)
4x(x^2-9)(x+1)

What is THX doing on the end of your problem? Any way.

4x^9+4x^3-36x^2-36x factor out 4x ( always factor, if you do not know what else to do )

4x(x^8+x^2-9x-9) I do not know about any more factoring, as the four terms in parenthesis are not factorable; no common factor.

That depends, do you want to factor this expression, or simplify it?
