Have you heard anything about the university called The New School? If not, what are your impressions about it upon hearing the name.

The New School is quite well known in academic circles.
It's made up of Eugene Lang, Parsons, the New School for Social Research, and a couple of other schools as well (I think there's one for music, and one for theatre, and one for business).
Eugene Lang, Parsons, and NSSR have solid reputations. I honestly don't know much about their business, theatre, or music schools.

Aka: The New School For Social Research.
It has a reputation for being rather experimental academically and very left-wing politically.
If it is a good fit for you, go for it. But be aware that it does have a definite orientation - so make sure that it is a comfortable place for you.

It has eight schools, and over 9000 students.
Its specialties include liberal arts, design, music, drama social research, and urban policy.
