to every body but Douglas you got it wrong pearl harbor was bombed on Dec. 7 1941 Hiroshima and Nagasaki happened in 1945 unsure of the of the day but it led the surrender of japan on the USS Missouri the reason it happened was the Japanese would not pull out china and the us put embargo's on the oil,and scrap steel been sent to japan as trade so the Japanese pulled a first strike against the u.s. to cripple the pacific fleet. but it did not work it only pissed us off.

Pearl Harbor came before the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The reason? Well, in the 30s and 40s, Japan invaded China and southeast Asia. The U.S. responded with economic sanctions on a variety of things, eventually on oil.

The Japanese realized that if they wanted to maintain their empire, they needed oil; the U.S. had been providing them with most of theirs.

So, they had two choices: Either give in to the demands of America and its allies, which meant giving up its ambitions for an empire; or start a war in order to pressure America into lifting its embargoes.

They decided to start a war, and began with the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the near-simultaneous invasions of Hong Kong (a British territory), Malaya (a British territory), and the Philippines (an American territory).

I believe that the bombing at Pearl Harbour happened before Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I'm not sure why they bombed Pearl Harbour though. I haven't taken World History in 6 years :S

Like everyone else said, you got it backwards. PH was attacked as a pre-emptive strike against the US. The idea was to take out as much of the Pacific fleet as possible to force the US to negotiate a settlement. Many in the Japanese military heirarchy secretly felt Japan could not prevail against America in a protracted conflict. The thinking was to put them on the defensive immediately by crippiling their ability to retaliate. The objective was the three carriers of the fleet, but they were not in port when the harbor was bombed. Had they been, whole different ballgame.

Your chronology is reversed. America bombed Japan to end the war that they started by attacking Pearl Harbor. Japan attacked the US due to oil embargoes.

Nope. It's the other way around.
There's no reason for the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The Japanese attacked US to show the world who's in charge.
I guess you could say they bomb Pearl Harbor because US got involved in WW II, and it is a threat to Japan.
At many times, US got themself involved in war just because Soviet help other countries. In the WW II, Soviet helped Japan. Other examples are the Vietnam War and Korean War.
