It's about rejection. being hurt so badly you've closed off to the world. It's all about an engulfing pain, hurt, tears that you will not allow to ever penetrate your life again.
Read it again and you'll will see what I mean
The last two lines sums it all a rock feels no pain, an island(which stands alone) never cries.

Pretty self explanatory it seems. he is a rock, cold, steadfast, unfeeling, unmovable by anyone. Emotionless. Hiding behind walls keeping everyone out. A result of having loved and lost and being unable to get over the pain or at least unwilling to risk and love again.

its telling you how to not live -- don't hole yourself up and wall yourself in -- you lose your emotional center because of your fear of loss and pain. it kind of hints at you can't really lose your emotional center anyway even if you do wall yourself in -- you will always feel pain and cry.
