my sister-in-law has had really bad stomach pains for the past day and a half. she is 38 weeks preg. she has stomach cramps in her lower abdomen and her stomach is constantly going from soft to hard. at times her stomach takes shape of the baby in the middle of her stomach. she has pains in her lower back that run down her thighs. she went to the doctor today and they said she was fully effaced but not dialated. she has been up for the past 32 hours in pain. what is going on? what can she do. she is so ready for the baby but the doctors don't seem to be any help. the nurse was the one who actually checked to see if she was dialated and at first the nurse said she was but then changed her mind. when they had her on the monitor her contraction rating was going off the paper and they still sent her home. what can she do?

Unless she has medical problems the hospital may not do anything for her. I wasn't dialated but my son was having problems that the ultra sound didn't pick up. It doesn't hurt to take her there and have her checked out. The baby maybe is distress. When was the last time she had a non stress test done? That shows if the baby is having problems. I would also time to see how often it is between pain. She maybe in labor. Since she is 38 weeks then the baby can come anytime. Try having her lay in the bath tub in warm/hot water. Where is the baby's father?

Unless she is in a high risk pregnancy, or very far from the hospital, she should be fine for a little while. While it certainly sounds like she is starting labor, maybe they just don't feel she is close enough to go to the hospital, because she will just spend hours there. After the contractions are 5 minutes apart or less, (for at least an hour straight) then she should head to the hospital. And even then, she could still have hours to go... With my first son, I had contractions that were 5 minutes apart from 12 till 10 at night before i decided to go to the hospital. And even being on the oxytocin, it still took until almost 7 in the morning to have him.

as usual, nurse w'd measure her stomach first,do some shaving n cleaning, she then w'd ask u if u want natural birth or injection 4 speed up birth.if natural birth,u've to wait 4 the right time there till labor.if water bag is broken n the private part is opened bigger(about 25mm),then the nurses w'd stand by 4 u to give birth.all these sometimes take about 4-5 hours 4 delivery.normal stomach cramp is still not the right time 4 giving birth yet.it's just one of the symptoms only.

She is in the beginning stages of labor, and this is the longest part, when her pains are 5 minutes apart for at least an hour she should go to the hospital, I expect within the next 24hrs her baby will arrive.

Sounds like she is in the early stages of labor..If she's having alot of pain in her back..She could have mainly back labor..Which is the hardest and most painful..
I had back labor with my middle son..Was in labor with him longer than the others..
Keep her comfy..If the pains get to where she just can't bear them any longer..Take her to the hospital..If nothing else but to ease her mind..And to be safe..

Best of Luck!!!!
