There aren't many fish that can live in a bowl. Bettas are pretty rare in that they get oxygen from the surface of the water. That said bettas aren't well suited for bowls. Despite people's claims they live in rice paddies, ditches, slow moving streams, and ponds. A betta in a puddle is a betta who got washed there by a flood, or who's water dried up. Don't get me wrong they can survive, but long term it's a dead sentence. Also betta need the temps in the 75-85F.

If you are good about changing the water weekly and keep him in temps over 70. A betta can live fairly well in a bowl.

the ancistrus plec will grow to about 6" long and become and enormously chunky fish that poops CONSTANTLY. i've seen a big full grown male that was about 2" wide at the head including pectorals.

he is not really a "cleaner" fish as he will muck up the water even more than a betta would. as the others have said, i would not put any plec in any tank under 15 gallons, and it must have EXCELLENT filtration to deal with the enormous bioload strain a plec will put on a tank.

no other fish can live in a stagnant bowl environment other than a betta, which will not thrive, just survive.

Your fish has popeye probably because of bacterial an infection. The bacterial an infection's probably been brought about through the very shown actuality that at the same time as living in a bowl, with out clear out, he's living in his personal feces. i'd propose both paying for a tank with a clear out (and heater, bettas require the water to be purely about 80 each and each of the cases!), or you do very regularly happening partial water replaced. under no circumstances replace each and each of the water in an aquarium or bowl because on properly of nasty micro organism, there is also some good micro organism interior the water that permits smash down the ammonia in poop and decaying nutrients, and also you truly do not wanna get rid of the best micro organism. also, be advantageous to apply a dechlorinator once you upload water. you should get some fish antibiotics to treatment the popeye if the better water high quality doesn't help. you may also upload a million/2 teaspoon of aquarium salt (no longer table salt, sea salt, iodized salt, even if) in step with gallon of water to assist decrease rigidity.

Most plecos easily get over a foot in size. It's like putting a Rottweiler puppy in a shoebox and expecting it to be fine. Even bettas shouldn't stay in a bowl. They only stay in those rice puddles for short periods of time and the water is always cleaned out (dripping out/getting refilled).

They are a river fish which means they breathe by letting water flow over their gills (as opposed to fish that swim forcing water over their gills) standing water in a bowl (or a tank for that matter) is often part of the reason they die

They need well oxygenated water with a filter and a place to hide during the day AND a supply of algae and many plecos like to rasp on driftwood.

There is no pleco that should be kept in any tank under fifteen gallons... And that is just for the dwarf varieties... Most should be in a four foot tank, with a heater and filter.
