not really, just messy,,,,lay down a towel!

I use the instead cup http://www.softcup.com/ that you can buy at some drug stores (Walgreens I think and usually Target) that way the mess is at a real minimum. Sometimes my husband doesn't even know I have my period.
The softcup is also good during the day instead of pads or tampons.
Can be tricky to figure out at first but it is so worth it.

When you gained weight you can have some issues like a dissorder in you period, I have the same issue and since I have been losing weight by using metformin my periods are every 45 days wich is great for me ... Metformin is helping lose weight and TTC. Talk to you Doctor to see if you can use this drug ... Good Luck

It's a bit messy, but I find it's more lubed and orgasm helps ease my cramps, though some people will say it makes them worse for them.
You can still get pregant during that time too, so use protection.
