However many paragraphs it comes out to. You have to count them. A paragraph is about 6-10 sentences. It can be any number of words as long as they make a whole sentence.

And the way you start out you info would depend on what you're writing about, but the main idea about each particular thing usualy comes first. Then you support it with details, and support those with supporting details of their own...etc.

I would make an outline of my topic first and go from there.
Each new idea could be a paragraph and it depends on how much information you want to detail in each paragraph.
400 words really is not a lot of words and you may find that you have more than 400 words by the time that you are done.

Mark Twain once said "I would have written a shorter letter... but I didn't have the time."

Just because something is short doesn't mean it's easy. In fact, the shorter it is, the harder it is to make something really well written. It forces you to be absolutely clear and concise as well as precise. There's no room for lots of words to explain something. You have to get just the right words.

And doing simple arithmetic to figure out how many paragraphs are in 400 words is ridiculous. A single paragraph could contain 400 words if the thought underlying the paragraph required it.

In Microsoft Word, click 'Tools' and then 'Word Count.' That would be the best thing to do. Judging by paragraphs won't be very accurate since a paragraph can be any length. If you don't have Microsoft Word, you could count the number of words in the first couple lines to get an average and then estimate according to how many lines there are.

A good, well-written paragraph would be about 200 words. 400 words is an extremely short assignment.

Paragraphs can differ in size.

If you are typing in Word with 12 font and Times New Roman, double spaced, then it takes about one and half pages typed at max.

Introduction is the start. (last line is usually thesis.)
Then body paragraphs and finally conclusion.

Don't make any obvious (stupid) starts like "My name is Blah and my report is on..."

400 words is a really easy essay.

Just make it really well-written and it will probably be about 2 paragraphs, maybe three.

At most five paragraphs.
I. Intro
II. Body 1
III. Body 2
IV. Body 3
V. Conclusion
