It takes a lot more imagination that TV. That and it fosters the development of strategic thinking, consequence and compromise and creativity. It requires interaction, and provides the opportunity to meet and interact with people who are not yet your friends (as opposed to strangers) in a mutually respectful and fun way. Kill your Television.

Magic The Gathering has to be one of the most strategic card games ever made. It involves knowing how rules interact, manging resources, and anticipating your opponent's moves at every point in the game. I'd say it is a serious mental exercise just playing one game between two moderately skilled players. Also, I like the flavor the game has, having 5 different but equal colors competing for supremacy. And there is a huge variety of deck types.

I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh. It's cool. I still have the computer games. I may end up selling the cards. They are not mint, but I kept them boxed up when I didn't play with them. No severe scuffs. More for those that want them to play and not worry about slight scuffs.

I thought that Yu-Gi-Oh was going to be one of the line-item complaints at my inevitable divorce hearing. I'm married to the stereotypical man's man, who also happens to be a geek. (Riddick crossed with Brian Posehn, that's my husband)
Anyway, instead of whining about how his dorky activities make me sick, I asked him to teach me how to play Yu-Gi-Oh and it turned out to be pretty fun and challenging. You've got to use some brain cells to play these games and I would recommend them for any attention deprived child.
Needless to say, my husband has turned me into a geek... a Yu-Gi-Oh playing, comic book collecting, X-men factoid retaining, logging on to primatechpaper.com, knowing who Leeroy Jenkins is, knife collecting, soon to be Klingon speaking geek.
