You only need an upgrade since 98 qualifies for the upgrade version. There is absolutely no difference between the upgrade version and the full version, so definately go for the upgrade version since it is cheaper.

EDIT: As long as you have your Windows 98 CD/DVD, you will be able to do a clean install even with the upgrade version, and you will have no problems reinstalling. All you need is the 98 CD/DVD to qualify for the upgrade.

You can just do the upgrade.
Here are the pros and cons of doing the upgrade.
PROS:
-Won't lose any files, at least i think. Pretty sure though.
-Cheaper then the full install. At least at COMPUSA
CONS:
-Won't be a super clean install, meaning it might be a little patchy
-When you need to do a reinstall on the drive, it will be very complicated because the upgrade is not the full version.

Hi there! There is a minimum specs in order to run Windows XP. First the memory should be at least 256MB. I have a Pentium II 333MHz, 256MB with 10GB Hard Disk space. I've installed a Windows XP Professional SP2. It worked but it so slow to boot up. I've installed Win 2000 first then Win XP. You have to have a lot of paitience. Good luck!

the only issue could be the size of you proccessor and chipset as well as memory. XP uses more memeory that 98. you may need to upgrade and that comes with XP so look into it more. get the info I mentioned, go to your favorite computer store. not best buy and **** like that, they are stupid and just want to sell stuff.

The problem will be the difference between an win98 computer and a winxp computer. Win 98 only needed 64mb of ram, 200mb of harddrive space. WinXP needs 512mb of ram, and 1.5gb (1,500mb) or harddrive space. Make sure the computer can handle it first, or it will run far slower than win98 ever did.

If you want a reinstall after that, buy full(with CD),expensive
If you are confident that your PC would have no problem after that, Buy Upgrade.
