When you are not looking they sneak out and steal one sock from the dryer. That is one hell of a trick since they have never been caught.

Seriously I guess you mean the ones that relight.

They contain small flecks of gunpowder or a similiar explosive that give off sparks. When you blow out the candle the end is still hot (an ember) when it sets off a flake of powder the mini explosion ignites the wax vapor (the white smoke) that is still rising from the ember.

Poof.. the candle is lit again.
