I live in St. Charles. It's about 20-30 mins from Chesterfield. It's a pretty safe city. We have lots of great schools, many churches, a shopping mall not to far away, in St. Peters. We have Main street with several great shops. They are always building a new community somewhere in St. Charles. There are alot of places to eat. The main grocery stores are schnucks, dierbergs and shop n save. We have wal-mart & target. Best buy, circuit city are both near the mall. I've lived here 99.9% of my life. And wouldn't move anywhere else. Consider St. Charles.

Winghaven is a fairly new and upcoming community very near Chesterfield. I have a friend who lives there and loves it. It is within a close distance to all of the shopping and restaurants Chesterfield has to offer. The East side in Illinois is also a great place to live with wonderful schools, churches, shopping and lots of growth, but most places are not w/in 30 min of Chesterfield.

If you want to be out a ways Wentzville or Foristell or St Peters or St Charles are all nice, Winghaven is a new subdivision that is a city in itself, has its own school, hospital, stores etc. I lived in St Louis for thirty years so I know the area well. There is O'Fallon a thriving community. That should be everything close to Chesterfield, I guess areas by West County Mall would be nice also.

You might consider living on the Illinois side. There is no personal property tax there. Home prices are a little more reasonable there too.
Edwardsville, IL is nice. It is close to all of the major highways. There are plenty of different churches. It is located approx 30 min. from St. Clair Square, The Galleria, and St. Louis Mills shopping malls.
There are two YMCA's that have plenty of stuff for kids to do. The Y has an indoor skating rink, an indoor rock climbing tower, 2 indoor pools, 1 outdoor pool, a gymnastics center, many classes and teams for kids, and much more. There is also the Children's museum, and the Watershed Nature Center. Edwardsville also has over 75mi. of (mostly) paved walking and bike trails. In the summer there is a open air farmers market downtown. The public library also has many programs for children. There are also several public parks.
The crime rate in Edwardsville is lower than that of the nation, the State of Illinois, Madison County, and most communities its size.

I'd say West St. Louis county in general is the best area overall in the St. Louis metro, but has the most expensive real estate. Second would be St. Charles county (it's a little far out west, but real estate is generally less expensive than Clayton, Chesterfield, Wildwood, etc.) South St. Louis County is okay also, but the top schools are in W. St. Louis County.

Check and see how far Washington, Missouri is from Chesterfield. When I lived there with my aunt we went to Chesterfield on the weekends to shop. Washington is a great town with a great school system. I graduated from high school there and the time I spent there was wonderful. I wish I could raise my daughter there. There is also private catholic schools there. It still has the small town feel to it but it has almost everything you need!
My aunt works for the city there... so if you live there she'll be the one you pay your water bill to!

I'd recommend Manchester/Ballwin. Lots of new construction, Tope rated Parkway School district, lots of shopping and churches, 10 minutes from Chesterfield valley, reasonable property values, and practically zero crime.

Southern Illionis is about a 20 minutes from downtown STL. Property is really cheap. We live in Arnold when we first moved here in August and I wouldn't recommend that area to you. We just bought a house in Troy, IL and love it,. Check out Edwardsville, Collinsville, Troy. and Highland in IL. Property is very expensive in MO compared to southern IL.
