My bf and I are sexually active (have been for a couple months) & we use condoms, but I've hear that they're not exactly 100% effective; just how effective are they? Is it pretty unlikley that I'd get pregnate while using condoms (assuming I'm using them correctly) ??

* I am going to the doc tomorrow to get on birth control, so I guess this question is kinda irrelavent, but.....

condoms are 99% effective if used right. Also know that birth control only helps against pregnancy not STD's or HIV. So even though your going to be on birth control i would still suggest condoms. IF your totally monogamous(just sleeping with him and he you) and you've both been tested it might be OK to not use one, but Condoms and birth control work better for preventing pregnancy than just birth control. Also know that when you start birth control it takes almost a month to work so be careful!

Condoms are most effective when properly used. However, there is no such thing as a method of birth control, alone or in any combination, that is 100% effective. And you still need to use condoms even with hormonal birth control methods, since condoms are about far more than birth control.

Condoms are very effective, as is other birth control. However, the effectivness depends upon how accurately you use them.

Keep condoms on hand even if you are going on the pill as you will want to use a back-up method for the first month & also if you are put on certain antibiotics. Antibiotics can decrease the affects of your birth control - check with your pharmacist each time you get an antibiotic!!

Condoms are supposed to be 99% effective, but they do deteriorate over time especially if left in the sun or warm areas. Even when you decide to go on birth control, it would still be a wise idea to use the condoms as well to protect against STD's. You never know what will happen.

Condoms are 99% effective, but anything can happen, so just be careful. I was on birth control and I still got pregnant, so there is still a possibility. Don't double up on condoms though, theres is more of a chance they will tear that way. :)

they are only as effective as any kind of birth control. if ur using them properly then there is no problem. get a name brand tho cuz they say that 1 out of every 5 condoms (other than trojan) has a hole in it. i dont know if its true or not but i wouldnt want to take the risk.

Definitely double up....the pill (ring, whatever you need) along with condoms every time is the safest. Condoms are not enough
