No, take it from a girl who dated a guy in a metal/hardcore band.
It's likely your voice hurts because it isn't trained for that type of singing.
A lot of those growls and screams come from deep down inside the stomach, not the throat.
You could strain your vocal chords, so be careful imitating.

Alot of these singers, even death metal voices, have had professional training. It's not so much to make them sound good, but to theach them how to use their woices and use proper breathing techniques so they don't have too many problems. Plus, alopt of bands have vocal effects in their mics, run through the soundboard, to give them a little help. I'm not too familiar with all that technical stuff though.

It's very possible to learn to sing well. You just need to know the right methods. Learn here https://tr.im/RFOIR
Singing teachers will cost money and can be expensive so they're not for everyone. Singing can be learned so it's not an "either you have it or you don't" kind of thing.
Whether you sound like crap or you're decent, I recommend this singing course. It's one of the best methods to learn to sing well in a short amount of time. It's all about using efficient techniques that work.

Even metal singer who are any good use their diaphragm to to produce their vocals rather than their throat. I would suggest getting a couple of lessons or reading a book called 'Singing for the stars!' It will teach you correct technique and possibly save your larynx from long term damage!

They probably do get sore throats, but the manner in which they sing causes nodules to form on their vocal cords. In some cases, with enough abuse, they have to get the nodules lasered off by a doctor.

I'm sorry, but even after that description, I still don't know the difference. Is it just that one was underground and one was more mainstream? Now I understand the origins, but how does that apply to modern bands? And personally, why does it matter what genre you call it? That doesn't change the music itself. Hell, I could call Escape the Fate country if I wanted to! That doesn't change what they actually sound like. BQ: Underoath and Bring Me the Horizon at the moment. To hell with what genre they're considered!

Well it sounds like your voice is untrained. You metal singers have to train their voices to sound like that, without practice yes they will get soar throats. However maybe your voice was not cut out for the metal business sweet pea. Hey we're not all built to sing like that. Sorry

I kind of wondered the same thing. You would think so cause they sing with a deep and low voice.
