whats the difference between mountains, plains and plateaus?

Plateaus are upthrust areas with relatively flat tops and more or less eroded sides usually covering several dozen to several hundred square miles.
Mountains are upthrust structures with raised corners either from folding, faulting, or upthrust with erosion.
Plains are flat areas, most often the result of water carried erosion products being deposited below mountains. In a few cases they might be downtrust blocks although these are usually just valleys.

mountains go really high and come to points like a triangle
plateaus go high also but they usually have really large flat tops
and plains are really large areas of flat land usually without trees
