so i have science homework on systems. anything can be a system , like something as simple as a toothbrush . or something as complex as the sun-earth-moon system.

what is the energy input , energy output, and the energy transfer of a SAILBOAT system ?

for example, i think the energy input would be the wind hitting the sails causing the boat to move.

I think your teacher is trying to get you to see that the energy input and the energy output will be equal. Not all energy output will be in the form that the user wants it to be. In the case of a sailboat, some of the energy input is wasted on drag.
