From the experience I have had, they will dig up anything. However, my understanding is that they are actually after grubs, worms, etc. When I have a problem with them, I spread an insecticide around the area they are digging up. It usually helps.

They will dig up everything. Shoot everyone you see on site. Don't let them run wild or your yard will look like the moon surface.
