It meant that people could continue working in large areas (factories, etc.) More work could be done, more goods produced. Then there's the whole area of the electric industry and how it uses natural resources for light production, human resources giving jobs, and domestic resources since it eliminated the wide-spread use of candles and oil (safety issues).

Man became biurnal (diurnal and nocturnal). Men can work day or night. Goods and services did not stop because the sun went down. As a whole, we can even keep working or playing more now in our own lives. We extended our awake time, much to our detriment it seems. Family structure became different with people (men) working the swing or graveyard shifts. We can pull all-nighters to study for big tests (not recommended). Travel became better with better road lights and traffic lights.

Think of all the uses for light bulbs in daily life (from huge to teeny) and how they are evolving as we speak. Then you can go with the international affect and imports/exports. Look up "light bulbs".

Good luck!!

Reduced use of coal oil which affected the coal industry. Cities and individuals had to pay to have their lights converted to electric from oil or gas. As a society, it would have affected the hours people keep. Better, cheaper light. It would also draw more lines of distinction between the classes; those who could afford it and those who could not. It should have cut down on accidental fires started by candles and/or lanterns. Culturally: look around you. there are neon signs, bulbs of different color, iridescent vs fluorescent. Keep going from there. Good luck.

It made a tremendous difference in many fields. For example, a factory could work overtime, using electric light bulbs. Schools and colleges could operate at night, using electric light bulbs.
Culturally, it provided a safer and more efficient alternative to lime lights for theatre presentations, and allowed the use of spot lights. And of course, without electric light there could not have been film projection etc.
In the field of medicine, electric light bulbs allow surgeons to operate 'round the clock, if necessary.
It's pretty hard to imagine what life would be like today if we had to revert to candle and lantern light!

longer working hours during more times of year, increased demand for power (because of the bulbs themselves, and heating workplaces where people would not otherwise have been working at night in the winter)

I'd think that, at the very least, it would allow for longer work hours and more productivity.
