Congradulations on writting your book. It's a hard job, and even if other's don't like it or it doesn't get published, you have still accomplished something major. You should be proud of yourself.
Many libraries has what's called a writter in residence. This is a published author that they pay to help other people write and publish books. If this person is any good, they can lead you through the process at no expence to you. Make sure you read or at least skim at least one of the books written by the writter in residence. If it's not the type of book you like, (s)he might not be of any help to you. For instance on of the writters in residence at the library I use, only published poems. So for somebody who wants to publish a novel, it might not be that helpful.

You have no clue do you? First, it has to be marketable and EXCELLENT, and INNOVATIVE. Then, it has to be presented in an exact format (all proper grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and aherence to manuscript style rules). Then, you need to contact publishers by mail to see if they might be interested, however most DO NOT accept unsolicited manuscripts and have so much backlog they don't want to see anything else. You really need an agent, but they only take highly successful writers and rarely new ones. BEFORE you begin a book you need an explicit outline. You also needs scads of writing experience and even more reading experience. The odds are stacked AGAINST you, and you sound as though you are totally in the dark. Hope this has enlightened you.

Two main ways...
1. Get an agent who will sell your idea or writeup to a publisher. This is very hard to do and may take months or years. You should never pay an agent until they get you a contract with a publisher.
2. Self-publishing. This is where you pay to have your book printed to you r specifications. If you plan to sell it in book stores, get an ISBN and bar code printed on the book.

Talk to English Professors or Theatre Professors at community colleges or Universities. Most of them have had a book published or two. They know how to first hand. Then you will not have go through scams.
