imo they are probably mostly not "hoaxes" in the literal sense, but neither do i believe that there are a race of peoples who would travel from outside of the space so far observed by man just to abduct a bunch of superstisious dudes for alegedly slightly nefarious reasons.

I don't think they are 'mostly hoaxes'. Yes, no one has proved that UFOs exist, and the US Air Force for one does not believe in them. There have been a lot of things which were once considered impossible to mankind, but which later were proved to exist.
Science needs rigorous proof and verifiable facts before it can accept the existence of anything. Our knowledge of UFOs has not so far reached such a level that we can say with confidence that UFOs are real or imaginary. Unless incontrovertible evidence is collected, the UFO phenomenon would be a favorite topic in living room discussions.
Personally, I think we shouldn't give up the idea that UFOs exist. There is a group called SETI (Search for Extra Territorial Intelligence) which is trying to determine if there are intelligent beings in the universe, outside of the earth. A few amateur bodies are still doing research on UFOs. I think we need to look at their work without any skepticism - maybe one day the question would be answered one way or the other!

EDIT: The letter T in SETI stands for Terrestrial, not Territorial.

Let’s put it this way: are intelligent aliens going to visit a planet whose first interstellar ambassadors were the TV broadcasts, Hogan’s Heroes, Green Acres and All in the Family…? They’d avoid us. It might be catching!

I don’t believe that most UFO’s are hoaxes, but neither do I believe that they are vehicles piloted by intelligent beings from a planet that must be (at least) thousands of light years away. That would be like saying that the Mount Rushmore monument was made to give ET’s a representative sample of the appearance of Earth people.

Extraordinary claims required extra-ordinary proof.... It's only a matter of time before there's First Contact. The only real evidence in the last 30 years, verified by reliable scientists and astronomers, was the so-called "Wow" signal picked up by SETI in 1977 from the Sagitarrius Constellation that lasted 72 seconds. There's been no evidence of alien ships, abduction, or sightings. The recent sightings of a UFO over O'Hare Airport is intrigueing, but where's the evidence?

I think most of them are hoaxes but I do believe that there are things that people cannot explain with the knowledge that we have today. I think that the possibility of UFOs or other life forms seems very likely though.

I think people who see these craft are tell the Truth, however they are not be able to say where these craft come from. I think that technologies of the Roswell craft has, sadly, been used to scare the the people. I think that the "greys" are the result of the a plan of almost pure greed. Consider what they look like??? Large eyes... This would suggest that they evolved in a environment of low light. What of the plant life? A grey skin? Whale and Dolphins have grey skin! These creatures are skinny.
(message to those at UFO command)
I know You monitor the internet. You have problaly been confused by events. Your greed saddens us. Make things right.

I have to question your choice of words. "Mostly hoaxes"? I think they are all hoaxes. If there were another race of intelligent being, I think we might have noticed it by now.
