Singing 'alot' actually does'nt strenghten the vocal chords as much as it 'does' wonders for your diaphram.(the power point for breath and strength) located right above the stomach.

Vocal chords are working anytime you speak and or cough, laugh, ect... but the diaphram is only exercised to it's maximum when you 'scream' 'yell' 'cheer' or ......... 'sing'! but note the vocal chords have to be helped a bit, this is done by gently placing your hands just above your stomach (clasp together) and feeling for the depletion of your stomach as you exhale while singing. (try and stay away from 'nasel' and 'throught' singing) use your built in 'amp' ...the diaphram.

Try it, and practice on it often, you'll find that your 'power' will increase the more you master the technique.

As long as you warm up before singing then it should strengthen them. If you don't do any type of warm ups then it will cause them to strain
