I need to burn something in dual layer format. I have a dual layer burner but i do not have any dual layer disc. I need to burn a file under 4.7 gb onto a dvd but they need to be in dual layer format. Can I burn in dual layer format without a dual layyer dvd disc even though i only need to burn a file under 4.7gb

You can ignore the part of about "Dual Layered Format",
You have to have a Dual Layered DVD to be able to go over 4.7 gigabytes
You cannot burn a Single Layer DVD in dual layer format,
A single layer DVD holds only 4.7 gigabytes and you're burning a DVD less than 4.7 gigs anyway

Dual Layered DVDs and Single Layered DVDs are recognised by any DVD system

there are standard File Systems -ISO and UDF- to burning a DVD
in Nero, start a compilation with ISO or UDF (depends on whether the file is bigger than 1 gigabyte i think)

No, your burner will not accept a single layer DVD and burn in dual layer format.

It checks the media before burning.
