O.K. I have a project. I need to order some rock but the specifications calls for coarse aggregate rock (VDOT #1). I know VDOT stands for Virginia Department of Transportation but how and where do I find how big the rock is? I know very state has their own DOT but do they each have their own rock specification or do they each use a general type? Help!!!

In the source reference #1, near the bottom, you will find the grading for VA #1 aggregate. If you need it, ref.2 may help explain the process.
I would suggest you call the VA DOT and ask them for rock suppliers that can meet their specs and then call the suppliers and see if you can get the stuff. If you need only a small amount (project = school project), you might ask DOT if you can scoop some out of their supply in a bucket.
