Stage magicians are illusionists. Of course, real magic is not an illusion -- it is real. But can real magic exist? If not, can real love exist?

Scientifically, real magic cannot exist. Science works in such a way that nothing in the universe cannot eventually be explained. Once defined by science, "real magic" is negated.

Similarly, love can be explained. Love between two people is usually regarded in two ways -- as a "magical" connection that two people feel, or totally limited to the individual. The first way is explained in science by the existence of pheromones, and the second by hormones.

However, both magic and love are so revered in our society that they take on a transcendental quality. In our minds, they are more than naturally occurring phenomena -- in a philosophical sense, we want them to be more. And so we ascribe to them the quality of never being fully explained by science. They are present in our literature and folklore, and we give them meaning.

This "meaning" can differ, as can our definition of magic or love. For example, we see a sunset, and say, "Oh, it's magical!" And then we turn to our honey-baby and say, "Honey-baby, I love you!" And even though the pretty colors of the sunset can be explained by the atmosphere, and the emotions we feel can be explained by the hormones from our brains caused by the visual reaction to the pretty colors, we invent a meaning that defies scientific definition.

"Meaning," then, is the only thing that makes magic and love real, in the sense that they are more than the scientific world claims. And this meaning comes from our minds. That means that once the scientific explanation takes away the mystery, the remaining qualities of magic and love come from our minds. And that makes them no more than an illusion.

So, the answer is yes -- magic and love are both illusions.

...or are they?

Love Can Sometimes Be Magic

Love isn't magic... it's real and is whatever you make it. Some people might not ever know what it is. To them, love is cheap. To others, it's something you can't live without.

Love is like many things, magic being one of them. When they say its like magic, they mean that its incredible as if its unbelievable. That's the real meaning. Go find it and you'll understand.

Einstein might have the answer. I read a quote of his once that said, "You can either live life like everything is a miracle or nothing is." God is love....unconditional, eternal, merciful love. Only once prerequisite to know love...you have to love HIM back. Accepting JESUS is the only way to do that. That's why most people don't love..because they don't know God. If you don't know God, you don't know love..like that saying, "Know God, know love. No God, no love." Simple and impossible as that.

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. "(1John 4:7-12 NIV)
