i dont think that night market (pasar malam) is quite popular in sabah. But let me tell you about the Pasar 'tamu '. Tamu is actuallly similar to the night market but instead doing it at night, they do it at the day. it has similar fashion to the flea market where people sell anything that has value. This event was said started very long time ago, when people discovered their needs was not available at their settlement but they know that they could get the recources from other location.Sabahans are consists of so many different races living in different districts. Bajau are living near the sea shore and working as a fisherman, while Dusun/ kadazan are more to farming far from the sea. Because of living at different location, they had set a day for them to meet so that they can exchange their materials; salt, fish, meat, veggies, oil, food, and more. Until today, the tamu tradition is still available. some tamu places that i can tell is, Tamparuli (Wednesday), Tuaran (sunday), in Kota Belud and more. The races involved is actually more than i had named above, but i only took two for example. but i still dont know why people like to go the flea market at night? it is better to do it at the day right? choose 'tamu'..
