because they think your question is interesting, but they lack the skills to answer properly.

You don't get points for stars. So people give them from an honest feeling that you've asked a good question
I will put stars on good questions that I either didn't have an answer for myself, or where someone else has already said everything that needs to be said.
Not all questions ask for opinions, many just want straight facts. It's daft to add the name and singer of a particular song when 34 people have already done so (probably just to pick up 2 points!)

No they are not getting any points..I have read all this stuff about the stars that yahoo has started and it has nothing to do with points....If you see a question that you feel is a good question then you put a star by it..It is suppose to tell others like 'hey answer me I am a good question" so really other than that it has no value...I don,t even see any sense in it to tell you the truth...

No you don't get points for starring a question.
I do it sometimes if someone's already given the same answer that I would have done and I like the question.
It shows the questioner that their question is appreciated, but I don't see the point in repeating an answer already given by another user.

To be honest I have done this. It's not to gain anything. Just because I cannot give an answer doesn't mean that I can't rate it as a good question that maybe of interest.
