i have 2 female fighting fish one blue and the other one red...
the red fighting fish acts normally, its the blue fighting fish that i'm confused about...
when they are both together the blue fighting fish opens it's gill right out and swims around the red fighting fish
is this about love or territory or something else..
i'm confused because they're both females

this is because you only have 2.

female bettas will figh if the tank is too small, their aren't enough hiding places, or if there are too few. they will pick at eachother at first to arange a pecking order, however if there is only two there will be a dominant one and a submissive one. it is not unlikely for the dominant one to attack the other to death. not with the intention of killing her, but trying too scare her away. if there is no where for her to go (in the wild they can just swiom away) then she can't get away and the other will keep attacking.

get more fish. at least 3 more. this means you'll need a 10gallon tank. I'm hoping you know they need a filter and heater, if not then that could also be lending a hand to the agression. having another fish with you all the time when you're a solitary fish is one thing, but when you're cold and dirty also she's bound to attack.

good luck!

*edit for person bellow me*
who told you females are dull? I have 8 and all are brightly colored. please don't answer the questions with uneducated answers, bettas have enough misconceptions aobut them flying around without people on yahoo answers repeating stuff they read off a walmart care sheet.
here are my very colorful females:

you dont ought to purchase yet another tank purely pass to walmart or petsmart and purchase a gold fish bowl and he or she could be happy that way she would be in a position to consume and don't concern approximately gettin attacked! If a woman that wasn’t ripe, or waiting for spawning, could have entered a adult males tank, it’s a danger that she could’ve been attacked, as non-ripe women individuals are no longer tolerated interior the region of the nest. by ability of no longer fleeing, a woman shows her readiness to spawn. confident, some circumstances in case you're no longer careful whilst attempting too breed bettas, the male will attack the female and he can injure the female, the girls individuals are lots smaller than the adult males. A Male and a woman: interior the wild, women individuals stay clean of adult males, different than for the period of mating. whilst cohabiting in tanks, adult males could kill women individuals, and are oftentimes saved aside till (a) they are juvenile siblings, (b) they are breeding, (c) there's a partition, or (d) the tank is large adequate for the female to flee attack. generally, formerly breeding, breeders use this type of field to permit woman show with out risking harm by ability of the male. 2 or greater women individuals: Bettas are no longer training fish, yet in a large tank with many hiding areas, woman bettas can cohabit. whilst 2 women individuals proportion a tank, one in many circumstances bullies the different, although, 4 or greater women individuals will set up a hierarchy allowing non violent co-existence, in spite of the undeniable fact that, women individuals living in community must be monitored for aggressive women individuals.

They are not both females. The female fighter fish is a dull colour not red or blue. Who told you they were both female.
Females can go in tanks with other fish but should be separated from the male until ready to mate.
You have 2 males. Separate them before they kill each other.

didn't any one tell you to keep them separated that is why they are called FIGHTING FISH they the pet shop should have told you that....when you put 2 together it stresses them out and causes them to fight have you ever put a mirror up to he out side of the tank to see how they would react?????that is why when you see them in the store they are stressed because they always have them on top of each other to where they can see each other....so they are stressed when you get them........please separate them until you get one with no color and then try to mate them but don't stress her out by keeping her in the tank with the crazy male....good luck
