The reason why I am asking is that I was at my friends shop today and in the shop where two cavalier's one was an 83 and the other was a 2005 I looked under both cars because they where both on the lift and they looked very similar underneath. I want to now if they are both the same platforms or did GM just reuse the same parts on the newer cars?

I would probably say that the chassis would be similar, but the body styles themselves are totally different. I bet they both have the factory rattle to them though. I doubt though that you could use any parts off of one car to put on another.

They are similar but very different. The 83 body is more square around the front end and tail. If I remember the 83 also has a 2.0 liter engine and the 05 has the 2.2 Echo Tech engine, which has the cartridge oil filter. If you want more info on the Cavalier, google has lots of images on the differences. Check it out sometime.

The basic frame lay out is similar, but there is quite a bit of difference in the engine and tranny. The 05 is a more refined car than the 83, in my opinion.

No. They are not the same but Chevy normally uses universal parts that some parts from different years will fit others with in about 3 to 5 years on certain makes & models.
