I know that my wife who is educated and experienced is not making a living wage and I own my own business which is struggling. The cost of living goes up but the money buys less. So who is making more money, and living better?

I was recently able to increase my prices but the cost of living went up more than I was able to squeeze from my customers.
It doesn't matter how much we are making there is never enough to save for retirement. I don't know anyone who is not living hand-to-mouth. I know many other business owners who are hurt as well. You can't tell me we have a good economy.

I'm not sure were everyone got the notion that the minimum wage has gone up but it is $5.15/hr and has been since 9/1/1997.

Lets see $5.15 x 40 = $206.00
$206.00 -%12(fica,SS)=$181.25
Can you imagine trying to live on that? Maybe I shouldn't complain...

Of course people are making more as they get older.. The point that saying wages are on the increase is what the problem is. It seems (where I am) that jobs are paying less now than the same exact jobs did 4 or 5 years ago. Also for the exact same positions, now they want a four year degree rather than just a couple years experience that it used to be. They also seem to be hiring much more through temp services so they don't have to pay for the benefits that come with them. It does not seem to be getting better in my opinion...

oremor-- Sounds like things are going great for you with your THREE JOBS.. Can't get by with just one??

It's not the president's problem. It's whoever your wife is working for to give her a raise. If your wife doesn't like who she is working for then she has the option of leaving! When will people learn that the government is not the answer! If you think about it you DID get a raise in the form of your taxes being lowered! YOU make your life better. Not the government.

Unfortunately you and your wife aren't. If you have a problem with your incomes, try something else! It's your choice to struggle against the current. Stay with your own business if you see greater success in your future, otherwise, move on!

& as to who makes more...my 25 y. o. daughter who works at a convenience store and the 21 y. o. who does inventory.

You have to remember that Bush lives in his own imaginary world of rainbows, lollipops and pixie dust. I happen to live in the real world like you. Oh yeah, Halliburton hit the jackpot!!!

Anyone with an IQ above 100 generally is making more than they were 2 years ago. If you're not, find a better job.

He's referring to the major hike in minimum wage, not each individual RIGHT THIS MOMENT. C'mon, you knew that.

House passed it, not Senate. Yet.
