1/4 is the same as 2/8, so we know that 2/8= $6.48. If we have 3/8 and we know that 1/4 is 2/8, then we are only missing 1/8 more or half of 1/4.We need to divide $6.48 by half, which give us $3.24.
1/4= $6.48
1/8= $3.24
tot=$9.72

If 1/4 of a cake cost $6.48 then multiply by 4 to find the price of a whole cake = $25.92. Then divide by 8 to see how much 1/8 costs = $3.24 and you can add that together 3 times to get 3/8 of a cake = $9.72.

Make the fourths into eighths---1/4=2/8 which is your $6.48.
Divide $6.48 by 2 to find 1/8 ($3.24). Multiply that by 3 and you should get the price for 3/8 ($9.72).

1/4 = 2/8 so if 1/4 cake costs $6.48, 1/8 costs $3.42, and 3/8 cake costs $10.26

x = price of one cake
1/4x = 6.48
4 times 6.48 = $25.92

25.92 / 8 = 3.24
3.24 x 3 = 9.72

I hope the steps I have put here make it clear enough for you to understand.

1/8 is half of a fourth (or 2/8 = 1/4). So ifyou take the price of a 1/4 cake and divide it by two you'll have the price of 1/8, which is 3.24. Since you need three-eigths, take the price for one-eigth and multily it by three (or if you're not good at decimal multiplication add 3.24 + 3.24 + 3.24). so the price of three-eigths is 9.72.
