I'm an Aspie. It is so hard to find other Autistic adults. If you are reading this and are also in the Autistic spectrum, how are you doing in this search?

I am an Aspie as well. When I was diagnosed in August of 2006 I looked mainly to the Internet for resources. I found there were a lot of resources written by people that have the disorder. With many learning disabilities there is lots of information on children with the disorder but very little on teens and virtually nothing on adults. However on the Internet I found there was tons of information try googling aspergia or wrong planet, or aspies for freedom, or simply type aspies. The clinical terms often yield result written by professionals. Where as as pie yields result from those with first hand experience.

Call the Autism society in your state -see a link below. There may be groups meeting in your area. I know here in Maine, there are social groups for people who are affected at various levels. Maybe you can even start one on your own! All you need is a place to meet, and if you're not near an Autism Society, then you could probably get free space in a library or community center. Good luck! You're not alone!

My son meets weekly with other young adults who use facilitated communication, and I know of at least one social group here in Maine for adults with asperger's.

To Annie, who answered after me... yeah, I noticed that too! henever it's mentioned in the media, the word "child" is always next to it! How ignorant!
