Most modern dancers do not wear shoes. I prefer my students to dance barefoot. However, some schools have shoes called DancePaws that are neutral colored and only cover the ball of your foot to allow ease of movement for turning and such. As for attire, I would expect my male students to wear tight fitting clothing (such as a muscle shirt and non-baggy jazz pants) so I can see their body move. Ask your teacher what you should wear. I would also encourage a dance belt - just like girls need to wear a bra for support, a guy should wear support too.

I have been taking modern for the past three and a half years and we do not wear shoes. It depends on what style modern you will be taking though, my teacher teaches mostly from the Merce Cunningham and Rudolph Laban styles. It's an adjustment, but it's really fun. Have fun!

depending on the style of modern you take, you probably shouldn't wear any shoes. I take 2 modern classes. one is Martha Grahm style and we dont wear any shoes or socks. the other one is a post modern dance class and i usually wear really old ballet shoes or thin socks. as for clothes, wear cut off sweats over your tights (if you have any tights) and a tight fitting t shirt. sorry i dont know of any links for pictures.

k... usually, if you go to a fully modern studio... you dont wear shoes... but if you do i'd order some bear claws of strip shoes... they are like half socks and you can get them in diiferent colors, they go around just the front of your foot to protect it and help you turn and stuff. usually you start with them and progress to bare feet. about clothes... ask your instructor, usually its just strechy or light clothing, make sure you can be flexible in them and be able to move around a lot in them... and good luck! modern dacne is soooo fun and cool to do!

for modern, most people dance barefoot, but you can also use Capezio Foot Undies, which work really well because they only cover the ball of your feet without being uncomfortable.
