Musicians??????????????????? i think not. thats one of the most disillusioned responses ive ever read! HAHAHA!
you do not have to be musical to rip someone elses song off then put generic rhyming words along with it.
if i had to vote on best answer, i think damn near every answer i read would be worthy. hopefully the judge will have mercy on me.

It's about time someone asked that question! I totally agree...and the worst part is that it's become part of mainstream society. In my daughter's elementary holiday program, one of the songs had 'rapping' in the middle of it(or a watered-down version of rapping) and the kids were told to do that obnoxious hand motion (the two fingers pointed down thing). This is in small town New England! It must be a sign of Armageddon or something!

Initially, rap music was the voice of a community, expressing the struggles, pride, and violence, of living in urban cities. Rap music used to tell stories, and had meaningful messages. Today, it has become very commercialized, and does nothing but glorify a materialistic, immoral way of living, with horrible lyrics and redundant hooks. So, today, I don't know what the purpose of rap music is.

It's rebellion, to annoy the he## out of older people.
My question would be why do people have to leave it playing at the gas pumps usually it is coming from BL-OWEN Factory stock speakers. (not that it maters) I'm pretty liberal but I consider this a violation of my rights when I'm forced to listen to the junk. Hey Raw Chic don't' make us!

I'm half white and half black and I literally am just as much of a rock music enthusiast as I am rap (other things too of course).
One I like to dance. Get crazy and shake my butt. Dance in crazy clubs with lights until Im drenched in sweat. If thats not your thing, you won't like rap.
Also if you listen to the lyrics in rap its a big ego boost. You can sing along and pretend you are some rich drug lord who just doesn't give a **** about the law......
thats pretty much it.

I must admit that your question was very entertaining, but I do disagree w/you. I don't understand how people listen to songs that are nothing but screaming. I prefer rap because I can understand the words better and I like the beats.

For people who aren't talented singers. Some rap I enjoy but they are all the same. They're all about bad stuff, usually, and I'm sick of it. Rap is not music, in my opinion. Anyone can sing it. It's not an art, it's just crap :]

For the same reason that people listen to any teenybopper music. It's what their friends listen to and you can dance to it. For the record, that's not real Rap.

Originally it was for poor, African American men from the city to express themselves, but it has lost that purpose and now seams to be for boasting about money and women. People, that listen to it so loud that their car vibrates strike me as stupid. I feel that people are just showing off now.
