several things. Ever see the show "Flip This House?" Anyways...
Fresh paint is always good, re-do the kithchen nobs on the cabinets (even the hinges) it is important to detail and seems very little or tidious, but that does help. Take out the clutter. You want your home to look cozy, lived in, but you also don't want a bunch of furniture within the home to make it look like there is not enough room etc. Be sure to fix the little things life opened wiring, replace curtains if needed, etc... Maybe even update the appliances if needed etc...
Good luck!

Make sure the place is clean and decluttered. You want the buyer to think of themselves living there and not renting it out as a crack house. Don't put too much money into the place but rather let the buyer know they can make a lower offer and be able to select their own carpeting, paint, etc. It makes no sense to put $5,000 into the place with renovations to your taste for the buyer to offer $5,000 less to get it to their tastes. This doesn't mean don't do anything that needs to be done but don't overdo it. The best word of advice is to show off your home in the same light as what inspired you to buy it.

A fresh coat of paint exterior and interior (neutal light colors). Fix up little things, sqeaky doors, holes in walls, clean the yard kind of stuff... oh, when you get people actually coming in to look at your home... have really good lighting and bake some toll house cookies or boil water and vanilla flavoring on the stove. It makes the house smell "homey".
