Actually yes, he was, even though he owned hundreds of slaves himself. Jefferson was the author of the Declaration of Independence. In his original draft he included a passage about slavery, which was replaced with "all men are created equal", he had wanted to include that slavery should be abolished. He was outvoted and the change was made. But Jefferson was a forward thinking man and knew the republic, especially one founded on personal liberties, could not tolerate slavery for generations to come. He was a farmer, among other things, and although he abhored the practice he also relied upon it as did so many others. But that was his present, he did not want it to become a part of our present as well.
You may want to try wikipedia.com or history.com, both have excellent content and plenty of links to other articles and essays.

Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States and one of the drafters of the Declaration of Independence.
Besides serving two terms as president, Jefferson served as vice-president, secretary of state, minister to France, congressman, governor of Virginia; he also founded the University of Virginia and served as president of the American Philosophical Society.
For all that, Jefferson is best remembered as a champion of human rights and the lead draftsman of the Declaration of Independence.

I would say he had a double standard; he would come openly and say he wanted to end slavery when in fact he had a ton of slaves, and he also hooked up with one of the slaves and had a kid with her
