We live in Ohio. If my husband wants to install remote starts from our home garage, on the side from his regular job. Would he require a business permit if it is our home?
Are they expensive, and at what point are you required to have a business permit to do a service from your home?
Should this prove to work out well, and we decided to actually open a business outside of our home, what happens to that permit? Can they be updated, or will an entirely different permit need to be purchased?

You can get a license at city hall for about $100. You do not have to change the license later. This type of work may be regulated under your state's contractor's licensing. In that case, he would have to get bonded and get a contractor's permit. That, too, is inexspensive. He would have to pass a contractor's test and have references. Normally, this is administered by the Department of Consumer affairs in states.

You may also look out for an option to work online to make extra cash in your spare time. I am a part time worker doing work online at home, so I would like to share a link where you can make $600-$1500 in a month working at home. The work need to be done is posting/answering a discussion and uploading any photo/image of your interest. For details visit

It would be a good idea to converse with your local zoning. Also talk to the Chamber of Commerce. They are a great place to guide you through things as well.
