Some of the anime books are kept in the Japanese reading style, which go from right to left, so you would start reading the book from the back to the front.
You would simply just begin from the back, read from the top right side, then keep reading to the left, and go to the next line on that page and continue.

From right to left! I had a hard time reading them at first too.
But here's how it works.
You start from the first right panel then the one beside it, then go down and start from the right again. (But of course it depends on the layouts of the panels).
The speech bubbles are also read from right to left (like the right one first, then the left one.)
Some manga (that's what Japanese comic books are called. I think you meant that when you said "anime books") has little guidelines at the back of the book.
Oh yeah. the books themselves are also backwards. Like you read from the "end" of the book to the "start". But I'm sure you can tell where to start by where the cover is.
Hope that helps!

It's actually called "manga". Some of it reads just like any other American book (left to right). These are the domestic manga, or those created in the US. But most of it reads right to left in the traditional Japanese style. It depends on what manga you get. If you get one that reads right to left, you start in the uppermost right hand corner and work your way down from right to left.
